With most events cancelled through June, Bosque Arts Center begins rescheduling despite doors remaining closed
CLIFTON – During these days of limited activity and the presence of novel coronavrirus COVID-19, the Bosque Arts Center has adopted a sense of “better safe than sorry” policy regarding the events they had planned for Spring 2020.
As the Bosque Arts Center begins to reschedule events postponed due to the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the doors will remain closed until further notice.
Whereas some events have been cancelled, others have been rescheduled in the hope that by the time July, August and September roll around, all will be back to normal. And with that, the late summer and early fall months will be full of events and fun things to do at the BAC.
In the meantime, the BAC remains closed to the public.
“Currently, there are no plans for reopening, but that’s subject to more information on May 18 from the Governor,” BAC program director Deb Phinney said. “As far as events go, we have done some rescheduling. Everything is still in cancellation mode for May, June is still in question, and July is still a go as established.”
The entry deadline for the 35th Annual Bosque Art Classic, the annual juried and judged art show and sale by the BAC Art Council, remains May 26. The Art Council notes that a contingency plan is in place if COVID-19 issues prevent holding the customary opening night reception, dinner, awards ceremony and September exhibition. If unable to host a live event, prizes will still be awarded and mailed, while the sale will proceed online.
The Student Photography Show reception has been set to June 21 at 2 p.m. The deadline to enter was April 30.
The Marcia Ball Concert originally scheduled for March 14 has been rescheduled for July 11.
The Marcia Ball Concert, initially scheduled for March 14 is now planned for July 11. Often compared to Memphis Slim and Fats Domino for its New Orleans influence, Marcia Ball and her band will take the stage at 7 p.m. with doors open at 5:30 p.m. for pre-show with food and beverages.
The next extremely popular BYOB Bingo Night is scheduled for July 14. While you enjoy a fun evening with friends, there is always the chance of winning the $500 dollar jackpot.
Start right into the games at 7 p.m. or come early for the reservation dinner at 6 p.m. served by the Culinary Club. Reservations must be placed for the dinner, or bring your own snacks if you prefer. Bring your own favorite beverage to this BYOB event.
The best value is a $20 package that offers three cards for five games. Or if cash is low, three cards for $5 is an option as is a $2 single card. A table full of colorful daubers gives players the opportunity to choose their favorite daub color. If you win the first game, the $20 winnings pay for the rest of the evening of enjoyment. And with three cards per game, chances of winning increase considerably. The final game of the evening – a black-out – is the longest-lasting game.
The Bosque Civic Music Association's Music Camp for the youth is still on schedule for July 27-31 if all is well in the area.The camp will run 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. daily. Fee is $100; registration forms will be available on BAC website June 1.
Students will be active participants and explore the music of the planned musical, as well as learn about pitch, rhythm and movement through singing, playing instruments and composing. The musical, under the direction of Beth Fry, will be performed on Friday, July 31 at 6:30 p.m.
A light dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Tickets for the performance will be available starting July 27. Watch for details and updates on the BAC website.
On Aug. 1 and 2, participants to the Linda Lucas Hardy Workshop will learn to create a stunning “Luminous, Lustrous Colored Pencil on Drafting Film.” The workshop is from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Master colored pencil artist Hardy is well known for creating brilliant colored pencil paintings that radiate light, color and emotion in a way that speaks to the heart. A 20-year veteran of teaching and workshop instruction, Hardy has led workshops and classes for thousands of students aged eight to 88.
For this particularly fun, casual, but information-packed class a packet will be provided. The packet will include the drafting film, with a printed template, two 5x7-inch reference photos, because you will be working on both sides of the film, a palette guide, helpful hints and instructions. The fee for the workshop includes lunch for both days and the cost of the supply packet.
The 38th Annual Big Event, the BAC’s annual fundraiser, originally scheduled for April 4, is rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15. The BAC looks forward to having their “Evening on Safari” on a sultry, warm August evening with raffle items, silent auction, and dinner and dancing. By dance the night away with music by Brian Barrett & Serengeti, it will be a great way to finally shake off the gloominess from these early spring months, so be sure to get your tickets.
Part of the Big Event fundraising is the e-BAC Online Auction. With Part 1 of bidding concluded, Part Two bidding will run through Aug. 13. Join in the FUNdraiser and support the BAC by bidding to purchase some beautiful and fun items, all tax free.
The Casino Night previously scheduled for April 25 was postponed until Sept. 26 with the gambling games rolling out at 7 p.m. Think Vegas Baby! Think sparkle, think lucky ladies, think dice, cards and roulette, think professional croupiers in uniform, think rows of slot machines, think endless evening entertainment.
And all that right around the corner. No flying to Vegas, or Reno, just a short drive to the Bosque Arts Center. The BAC is upping their BINGO evening and will have everything you need to come and play the casino games you enjoy as if you’re in Vegas, Ruidoso or at a Winstar!
This special night of “gambling” is planned to raise monies in support of the Bosque Arts Center and all of its ongoing activities. For the price of your $50 admission, you will receive $50 worth of gambling chips, complimentary beer and wine, a selection of appetizers and authentic looking tables and trained dealers, provided by Elite Casino Events out of Ft. Worth.
The show will go on...eventually at least! It was a tough decision but after much thought, the Tin Building Theatre board of directors voted to postpone the spring performance of Bad Medicine by Michael Tennant until the fall. Bad Medicine has been rescheduled for October, with performance dates Oct. 3, 4, 9 and 10.
The cast continues to have line "rehearsals" once per week via video conference just to keep the lines fresh in their minds and they will resume onstage in September. Please plan to buy tickets in September and come see this wonderfully hilarious show.
DATES STILL PENDING
The Gary P. Nunn Concert initially scheduled for May 30 will be rescheduled, but the date is still pending.
The BCMA’s Burgers and Blues with Van Wilks, initially scheduled for Sat., June 27, will be rescheduled, but a date is still pending.

- The Summer Sewing Camp
- BCMA Memorial Day Concert
- The annual Quilt Show, but mark your calendars for 2021 on June 11-12.
