Beloved Broadway Favorites

Taking audience on a roller coaster of sounds, Bosque Chorale presents Spring Concert "Somewhere" April 10 at the Bosque Arts Center’s Frazier Performance Hall

CLIFTON – Songs from Broadway musicals are designed to evoke strong emotions and offer a unique blend of storytelling, emotional expression, and musicality. The songs with their catchy melodies often transcend generations with their popularity.

Presenting the Bosque Chorale Spring Concert “Somewhere," Conductor David Anavitarte leads the choir for the 22nd time in a concert featuring beloved Broadway favorites. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. on April 10 in the historic setting of Frazier Performance Hall on the Bosque Arts Center’s third floor.

Audiences are sure to delight in what Anavitarte describes as “an eclectic blend of styles that should take the audience on a roller coaster of sounds” with tickets still on sale at the Bosque Arts Center.

Anavitarte said the Chorale will feature emotions and singing in several different languages, including Hebrew, Italian and Cockney English. Kenny Balinao will accompany the chorale on the 1923 Chickering grand piano.

The concert features tunes from “Oklahoma,” “The Sound of Music,” “Mary Poppins,” and “West Side Story,” to name a few. The song selections include “Consider Yourself,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’,” “Somebody,” “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “Somewhere.”

“The Bosque Chorale is a special group of people who come in week after week to pursue choral excellence,” Anavitarte said. “They work hard to present something worthy for the audience and this concert is no exception.”

Getting the Chorale ready for the spring concert started with weekly rehearsals shortly after the Christmas holiday.

As an extra treat, the beautiful children’s voices of the Bosque County Children's Choir will once again fill the cavernous 102-year-old auditorium of the former Clifton Lutheran College prior to the Bosque Chorale concert.

Under the direction of Beth Fry offer the young vocalist present their concert “Just Sing” from 6:30-7 p.m. There is no charge for the children's concert, but donations are welcomed. The Children’s Choir was formed only last year, is growing and is a joy to experience.

“You needn’t leave town to experience the best of Broadway in our own backyard,” said Kathy Harr, Bosque Civic Music Association president. A reception will be held immediately following the concert in the second-floor Jones Gallery with refreshments.

Please make plans to enjoy a very special evening of music on April 10th at the Bosque Arts Center. Reserved tickets can be purchased for $20 for "Somewhere" by visiting the Bosque Arts Center website or by calling (254) 675-3724.
