Cats, Canines & Cocktails: Third Annual Bosque Spay Neuter Fabulous Fandango fundraiser seeks financial support to tackle over-population through shelters, fostering and forever home adoptions with dinner and live music set Sept. 23
CLIFTON – Tackling the over-population of cats and dogs is an ongoing endeavor for several Bosque County organizations. And 2023 has been a challenging year with shelters and fosters full because of an increase in destitute animals, a decrease in adoptions and extreme weather conditions to cope with for strays.
But no matter how badly the mostly volunteers want to help citizens of Bosque County by taking care of family planning for the four-legged furry friends or finding them caring forever homes, they cannot do so without funds.

At the Third Annual Bosque Spay Neuter Fabulous Fandango fundraiser, Sat. Sept. 23 at Texas Safari Ranch at 5:30 p.m., Bosque Spay Neuter offers their guests a fun-filled evening out with a delicious catered dinner, live music, an open bar, and a Giraffe Meet and Greet before the event. At the event people important to the organization will be recognized.
BSN is also excited about the variety of items on both the silent auction and live auction. Tickets are $90 per person and can be purchased on their website at bosquespayneuter.org/events.html, or call 254-253-6124.
A sneak peak into some of their live auction items includes a trip for six in a private jet; premier court side Texas A&M basketball tickets; a motor home day trip for six to Windstar; and second row field box seats for four to Houston Astros with two rooms for one night at Hilton Premier Hotel Sam Houston. Condo for two nights at Kon Tiki Resort near Rockport, as well as artwork, lottery tickets trees, stretch raffle and gift baskets galore.
Beyond Fandango fun, the heart of the 501c3 non-profit organization Bosque Spay and Neuter lies in its mission: to offer affordable spay/neuter services for pet owners. BSN also relocates rescue dogs and cats to highly populated areas to give them greater exposure to aid in their adoption, while offering services and fostering for stray animals across Bosque County with adoption into a loving home is the ultimate goal.

This positively impacts the community by reducing cat population and roaming homeless dogs. BSN actions decidedly increases the health and safety of furry friends and greatly reduces calls to the Sheriff and Police.
Since the organization’s inception in 2015, over 5000 cats and over 1000 dogs have been spay/neutered. This year alone it was 450 cats and 60 dogs. In the five years since they began their transport program, 1,800 dogs and 1,700 cats have found homes with more than 25 rescue groups in the US and Canada. Just this year it has been 430 puppies and dogs, which fills the BSN Facebook page with Happy Ending stories.
Their last big transport to one of the BSN’s largest rescue partner El Paso County Canine Rescue in Colorado gave 28 puppies and five dogs the opportunity for a life full of love and care in forever homes. Some of the puppies were rescued from living under a sweltering hot porch to caring fosters.
Before the transport, all received their vaccinations for this trip. Each dog/puppy has to have 2 DHPP shots, a Bordatella vaccine, a rabies vaccine, and a health certificate to make sure it’s safe enough to travel. It costs $75 to sponsor the adult dogs and $50 for puppies. And then there’s the cost of gas for the trip too.

Delilah was stuck in the Clifton pound for a couple of months. BSN was able to place with a foster to get to know her better. From there she made the May Transport to Colorado and is now adopted.
A stray named Harley was taken in by a dear lady in Valley Mills. Thanks to donations to cover his $75 vetting, he was on a spring transport to Colorado on his way to a better life.
Nela’s beautiful puppies were all adopted into loving homes in Colorado. Nela herself a feral dog with someone who cares for her and she is content to live life on her own terms. She was trapped though to be spayed.
“I look at each situation separately and try to make that situation better for the people,” BSN Executive Director Carol Linn said. “Because if we can make it easier for them, they will be able to take of their pets or fosters better.”
A cat lover in Iredell was feeding eight outdoor cats that wandered up needing her love; seven of which are female. With her husband unemployed and her disability the couple had a hard time finding money to feed the cats, let along to spay the females. BSN offered to spay the ladies to avoid more litters and to help with food supplies. With that BSN was able to remove her heavy burden of worry

“This is why we love our supporters so much – they make it possible for us to say YES WE CAN HELP! to the people who need us the most,” Linn said. “We certainly hope people attending the Fandango and their generous donations will help us help them.”
Local businesses like Tractor Supply Co. help with food donations. BSN provides between 800 and 1500 pounds of animal food each month to financially-challenged families in Bosque County, who sometimes are taking care of a cat colony or take in stray dogs out of the kindness of their hearts. And to the temporary fosters of animals waiting for transport or spay/neuters.
Every donation helps BSN help the people and pets who need their help the most. The organization has an easily accessible Wish List on Amazon. With a simple mouse click you can help dogs and cats in the community who rely on BSN for their health and safety.
