Country Christmas Celebration

Tuneful Twosome: Sons of Statler Brothers deliver Holiday spirit and cheer as Wilson Fairchild to the Bosque Arts Center’s Tin Building Theatre Dec. 16

CLIFTON – When one of your favorite Christmas songs is performed with a country twist, like Willie Nelson’s “Pretty Paper,” Merle Haggard’s “White Christmas,” Reba McEntire’s “Holy Night,” it just sounds so much more heartwarming, sincere and reminiscent of the essence of the season.

With their Christmas concert by Wilson Fairchild, the Bosque Arts Center brings that beloved country Christmas to Bosque County Sat. Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with food and beverages for sale, including chili dogs, Frito pies, nachos, and the like. Wilson Fairchild will take the Tin Building Theatre stage at 7 p.m. General admission seats for the Christmas show are $25, while reserved seats at tables are $50, $75 and $125 as a sponsor. Tickets are available at the Bosque Arts Center website or by calling 254-675-3724.

Energetic, enthusiastic, and very talented cousins Langdon and Wil Reid carry the torch for traditional country music under the band named Wilson Fairchild – their middle names. The duo promises to put on a Christmas show that “has more Christmas spirit than a glass of eggnog and an ugly holiday sweater.” Audience members will quickly recognize a family resemblance as they hear the harmonies of “the Reid boys” as the cousins Wil and Langdon are sons of Statler Brothers Harold and Don Reid.

The Statler Brothers were an American country music, gospel, and vocal group from Staunton, VA. The quartet formed in 1955 performing locally. Then from 1964 to 1972, they sang as opening act and backup singers for the legendary Johnny Cash.

Growing up as sons of the Statler Brothers, music, entertaining and performing always surrounded Langdon and Wil, who have been writing songs since they were teenagers. Along with recording their own music, Ricky Skaggs, Dailey & Vincent and the Statler Brothers have recorded their songs.

Their songwriting spans the country, bluegrass and gospel fields. They sum up their passion and drive for their music and career with a line from their song “Country On” that says it all: “We love country music and we’ll never let it die.”

Wilson Fairchild opened for the late George Jones for nearly four years, performing on the Grand Ole Opry stage. They continue carrying on a family legacy of traditional country music, high energy performances and pure entertainment.

This performance at the BAC comes just prior to the release of their upcoming CD and TV special “Statler Made,” which will be broadcast beginning January 11 on channels including PBS, RFD-TV, TBN and more. It’s a project that, according to Wil Reid, “just feels right at this point in time to honor some great music and some great folks that have inspired us our whole lives. From country to gospel, Statler Made is literally what made us.”

The Reid cousins plan to bring “a sleigh full of the Christmas spirit,” with Christmas songs old and new, in addition to plenty of heartfelt stories, moments, and laughs. So, put on your country this Christmas and enjoy this unique holiday concert at the BAC.
